WALKING ON WATER

One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.  The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Luke 8:22-25

Sometimes, verses just come alive in my heart despite the amount of times I've read them before. And this. So timely. So touching. And at the same time a little comical. This season has been a season of growth marked by a very high water level that if we're honest, feels a lot like drowning at times. Is Jesus just taking a snooze in a time where we desperately need saving? And then I saw it. In the first verse it says that Jesus directed those men to the lake. See where I'm going here? He had it under control the whole time and he still does. When God says go and you go he is faithful to carry you through, even when the water is rising around you. Even when the storm is RAGING. When he awoke he wasn't startled or caught off guard, he rose up told the WIND and the WAVES to pipe down and they did and isn't that so true in our own lives? So today, as my little Carter man woke up from his nap and snuggled in my lap we will declare, together, that God is the God of the WAVES, the WIND, our fears, our failures, and our future too.
