LOVE IN THE MUNDANE

I remember when I was younger and Drake came out with the song that said "Sweat pants, hair tied, chillin' with no make-up on that's when you're the prettiest, I hope that you don't take it wrong." And after that there were all sorts of graphics going around about how if a man can't love you at your worst he doesn't deserve you at your best.  At the time, the whole no makeup thing was glamorized of cute pictures of beautiful girls in sweat pants who are snuggled up next to their "boo" or "bae" or whatever they call it these days ;) I clearly remember thinking no one could love me for everything I was and everything I wasnt.

And then...there is this. The raw. The real. The behind the scenes. This photo isn't flattering and it doesn't carry the romantic feel that I grew up thinking it would. Love extends so much further than romance and lovey dovey feelings and sometimes it looks a lot like this. A little boy who took off his diaper in the middle of the night covered in poop and a mama who just needs a little more rest or the man behind the picture who wakes up in the middle of the night to work for his family and chooses to love and protect and treasure that hot mess of a woman who showers way less than she should. So thank you, Drizzy, for reminding me that love isn't about looking a certain way but the out-pour of our hearts in the not so glamorous, mundane parts of our lives.
